Three 3D printed concrete bicycle bridges in North Holland
On September 29, 2023, the renovated N243 between Alkmaar and Koggenland was officially opened. For the ‘N243 Rehabilitation’ project, three 3D printed bridges have been installed in cooperation with the Province of North Holland, BAM Infra Nederland and Witteveen+Bos. To make the N243 safer for cyclists, the bicycle bridges were built over the Jispersloot, Vrouwensloot, Beemsterringvaart and Voordijksloot along the Schermerhornerweg.
The three 3D printed concrete bicycle bridges were printed in our print factory. The bridges are defined in parametric models, which can be easily modified to create unique designs that can be printed directly. The 3D printed bridges have different sizes and differently shaped edges. With its span of 14.8 meters, the bridge over the Beemsterringvaart is the longest bridge in the Netherlands that we built in this way.
Henk Post, Civil Director at BAM Infra Regional: “We have to build more sustainable. Collaboration is essential here. When we look back in ten years’ time, we will see that these types of creative and innovative solutions and partnerships have been the starting point for sustainable construction.”
