The longest 3D printed bridge in the world

In 2019, 3D printing of the first concrete building parts was started in Eindhoven by 3D.Weber together with BAM Infra. At that time Michiel van der Kley worked as an architect together with Rijkswaterstaat and Eindhoven University of Technology. Bureau Witteveen+Bos was responsible as technical engineer for the construction and Summum Engineering for the parametric model.

Michiel van der Kley: “It’s great to see it happen. After much talking, thinking and pow-wows, the 29.5 meter long bridge is finally placed. Wow, what a delight”.

The bridge was printed in the concrete printing factory of Saint-Gobain Weber Beamix and realised by the construction group BAM. It is not only the longest, but also the largest concrete bridge in the world for which the architect had complete freedom. At the request of the municipality of Nijmegen, Michiel van der Kley was able to work freely on the design and was not restricted by the material or traditional processes, such as concrete formwork.
